1996-97 SEASON
Ranked fifth on club with 118 penalty minutes... Collected first point of the season with a short-handed assist against Tampa Bay on 10/11... Scored first goal of season on 10/23 against New York Rangers... Scored game-tying goal against the Bruins on 11/19, sending the game into overtime... Named Capitals co-Player-of-the-Month for November... Played in his 550th game on 1/1 vs. Hartford... Assisted on game-winning goal vs. the Rangers on 1/9... Returned 3/2 after fracturing ankle on 1/9... Dished out two assists on 3/6, marking his first multiple-point game of the season.

1995-96 SEASON
Finished first on club with a +26 rating... Played in his 500th NHL game on 3/19 against Anaheim and in his 100th game as a Capital on 3/17 against his former club Dallas... Scored one goal and registered a +3 rating against Vancouver on 3/12... Missed 11 games (2/8-3/3) due to a mild concussion... Distributed game-tying assist in Ottawa on 2/1... Posted a power play assist versus Detroit on 1/13... Named team's Player-of-the-Month for November... Scored his first goal of the season versus Dallas on 10/17.

CAREER
Begins his third full season in Washington... Debut with the Capitals on 1/21/95 at Hartford, marked his 400th game in the NHL... Played six seasons in the Stars' organization, serving as the club's captain in his final three seasons... Registered career-highs during the '92-93 season in goals (15) and points (42) while leading the Stars' defenseman in scoring for a second consecutive season... Had a career high 31 penalty minutes against Bufallo on 3/31/92... Represented the Stars' during the 1992 All-Star Game in Philadelphia... Named Most Improved Player and Best Defenseman by his teammates during the '90-91 season... Was acquired from the New York Rangers in October of 1988 after one season in the Big Apple... Signed as an undrafted free agent by New York in January of 1987.

PERSONAL
Mark and his wife Lorenne have four children, Matthew, Jarred, Natalie, and Jacob... Mark and his family return to Red Deer, Alberta in the summers... While with the North Stars, Mark became involved with the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women doing public service announcements... Was nominated for the Bud Man-of-the-Year for his community service in 1992... Is a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
